PPPE equipment

Purpose of the project:

Process parameter protection equipment (hereinafter PPPE) is included into composition of engineered safety feature actuation system (ESFAS) of Kalinin NPP power Unit 4.

PPPE is intended for:

  • receipt and conversion of analogue signals from sensors of unified current signal (UCS), from thermoelectric converter (TEC) and from resistance thermal converter  (RTC) into frequency signals;
  • calculation of current values of parameters monitored from sensors UCS, TEC and RTC;
  • comparison of monitored parameters’ current values with the setpoints, and generation of discrete signals of reaching the actuation setpoints;
  • transfer of generated discrete signals on reaching the actuation setpoints  into signal logical processing equipment (SLPE);
  • receipt and multiplication of discrete signals from sensors of state of safety systems (SS) technological equipment, and their transfer to SLPE;
  • transfer of discrete signals, characterizing PPPE state (good condition, output to check mode) to signaling equipment of programmed-technical means (TPTS);
  • information transfer to communication unit (gateway) of SLPE;
  • transfer to TPTS of analogue signals in the form of current and voltage, characterizing the current values of individual process parameters monitored;
  • check of own operability and of communication lines from sensors to normalizing converters.

PPPE consists of three data acquisition and processing devices DAPD-02, performing the generation of initiating signals for SS actuation.

Composition of  DAPD-02 includes the following devices and units:

  • current input and galvanic separation 
    DSCA32-01C (4 – 20 mA/4 – 20 mA) of firm DATAFORTH;
  • with potential input and galvanic separation DSCA30-08C (0 – 50 mV/4 – 20 mA) of firm DATAFORTH;
  • modules for analogue signals input for thermo resistors DSCA34-02C (100P/4 – 20 mA) of firm DATAFORTH;
  • Processing unit  BPM-02;
  • Processing unit BPM-03;
  • Conversion and monitoring unit BPH-06;
  • Supply unit BNN-02;
  • Indication unit BIC-02.

DAPD-02 performs the following functions:

  • Receipt of UCS in the range from 4 to 20 mA from the sensors of monitoring the pressure, level and flow of type “Metran” (supplied from PPPE sources), and sensors of monitoring the DG power, having their own supply source;
  • Receipt of voltage signals from 0 to 31.5 mV from TEC of type ТХК (L);
  • Receipt of signals from RTC of type 100P;
  • Calculation of current values of monitored parameters;
  • Compensation of “cold junctions” temperature, and linearization of thermocouples characteristic;
  • Calculation of complex (calculated) parameters (departure from boiling in the primary circuit, and difference of saturation temperature values);
  • Taking into account the value of hydrostatical columns at measuring the pressure and level values;
  • Setting, if necessary, the time constant of measuring the input signal from 0.1 to 5.0 s with accuracy of 0.1 s;
  • Setting by each monitored parameter, including those being calculated, of threshold setpoints within the range from 0.1 to 99.9 % of upper value of parameter monitored with discreteness of setting the threshold of 0.1 % upper parameter value;
  • Setting of hysteresis of actuation/return of threshold circuits within the range from 
    1 to 4 % of upper limit of a parameter measuring range;
  • Comparison of current values of monitored parameters with assigned setpoint values, and generation of discrete signals at parameter reaching the setpoint level;
  • Receipt and multiplication of discrete signals on MTE state;
  • Output of discrete signals to three channels of SLPE with galvanic separation (closed state of output optrons corresponds to presence of a signal); output of analogue signals with galvanic separation to TPTS in the form of current 4 – 20 mA and voltage 2 – 10 V, proportional to input analogue signals;
  • Generation of discrete signal “CHECK” at opening of any DAPD door;
  • Generation and output to TPTS of discrete signals on DAPD state (CHECK, GOOD CONDITION);
  • Modes of check and monitoring:
    • Automatic check of good condition by each channel of monitoring and signals processing: availability of supply of units, modules and sensors, monitoring of communication lines, staying within the range of monitored parameter, monitoring of input and output optrons;
    • Periodic manual check from built-in devices;
    • Manual check of metrological characteristics from external calibration devices;
  • Presentation of the following information at unit BIC-02 monitor:
    • Current values of monitored parameters;
    • Setpoint values;
    • State of input and output discrete signals;
    • State of equipment (good condition and check);
  • Output via Ethernet of the following information into gateway of DAPD-03 (SLPE):
    • Current values of monitored parameters;
    • Setpoint values;
    • State of input and output discrete signals;
    • State of equipment (good condition and check).

Unit BPH–06 ensures the following:

  • Receipt of unified current signals 4 – 20 mA from sensors of pressure, level and flow of type “Metran”. Number of signals being received (channels) is 19 pcs.;
  • Receipt of unified current signals 4 – 20 mA from converters DSCA34-02C and DSCA30-08C of firm DATAFORTH, located in DAPD, converting signals from RTC and TEC, respectively, into current. Number of signals being received (channels) is 
    8 pcs.;
  • Supply each channel sensors with galvanic separation;
  • Conversion of current signals into pulse recurrence frequency within the range from 20 to 100 kHz by every channel, and their transfer to units BPM-02 and BPM-03 via optron separation;
  • Receipt of discrete signal “CHECK” from unit BPM-03;
  • Conversion of individual input signals from sensors into direct current voltage within the range  of  2 – 10 V with galvanic separation to be transferred to TPTS. Possible amount of parameters being output – 16 pcs.;
  • Automatic check of good condition of modules functioning and of validity of input current signals, including, leaving the range, availability of sensors supply and breaks of communication lines;
  • Generation of signals on good condition, and their transfer to unit BPM-03;
  • Calibration of channels from external reference devices via front connector of modules;
  • Output of information on monitored parameters values, modes of channels check and their good condition to BIC-02. The exchange is performed via interface RS-485.

Units BPM–02 and BPM–03 provide the following:

  • Receipt of current values of monitored process parameters in the form of frequency signals in the range 20 – 100 kHz from modules of unit BPH-06 with their conversion into decimal ones;
  • Compensation of “cold junctions” temperature, and linearization of thermocouples’ characteristic;
  • Calculation of complex (calculated) parameters: departure from boiling in the primary circuit, and difference of saturation temperature values;
  • Comparison of current values of monitored parameters with assigned setpoint values, and generation of discrete signals with galvanic separation into three channels of SLPE at the parameter reaching the setpoint value;
  • Setting of threshold setpoints value by each monitored parameter, including calculated ones, from 0.1 to 99.9 % of upper value of parameter monitored with discreteness of threshold setting equal to 0.1 % of upper parameter value;
  • Taking into account the value of hydrostatic columns at measuring the pressure and level values;
  • Setting by any monitored parameter, if necessary, of the time constant for measuring the input signal from 0.1 to 5.0 with accuracy of 0.1 s;
  • Setting of hysteresis of actuation/return of threshold circuits in the range from 1 to 4 % of upper limit of the parameter measuring range (setting of measuring time constant, hysteresis values, values of setpoints and direction (> or <) is performed non-operatively by means of jumpers at the boards of modules included into composition of units 
    BPM–02 and BPM–03;
  • Receipt of discrete signals on MTE state, their multiplication and transfer to three channels of SLPE with optron separation (number of signals received is up to 6 pcs.);
  • Receipt of discrete signals of good condition from units BPM-02 and BPH-06;
  • Output with galvanic separation of signals “CHECK” to TPTS (signal “CHECK” is generated at opening of any of  DAPD-02 doors with indication at the door of  DAPD-02);
  • Generation of generalized signals of good condition by results of internal diagnostic of modules, participating in generation of discrete signals. Automatic check of good condition of the modules is performed by each monitoring channel in the modules in the following way:
    • Setting of short pulses to input optrons, and receiving the signals from output circuits of module;
    • By correspondence to the range of monitored parameters, by actuation of threshold circuit and failures of installed jumpers by the setpoint, hysteresis and damping;
  • Manual check of functioning in the CHECK mode:
    • of modules PVK from the switches, located at the front panel of modules;
    • of modules PSN from unit BPH-06 by setting the currents to inputs of modules PPN;
  • Output of information via parallel interface into BIC02 on the following:
    • Current values of monitored parameters and calculated parameters;
    • Setpoint values;
    • State of input and output discrete signals;
    • State of equipment (good condition and check).

Indication unit BIC-02 consists of the work station WS-612GS/4525AP/T-R19 with 10-inch color monitor with sensor screen, and ensures the following:

  • Receipt of information via insulated inputs/outputs from units BPM–02 and BPM–03, and via RS-485 – from unit BPH-06;
  • Presentation of information at the monitor in the form of slides on current values of parameters, setpoints, state of input and output discrete signals, and state of equipment (CHECK, GOOD CONDITION);
  • Output of information to SLPE exchange devices via insulated interfaces Ethernet;
  • Setting in the manual check mode of necessary values of current in unit BPH06 for the check of threshold circuits actuation in units BPM-02 and BPM-03.

Supply unit BNN-02 provides low-voltage supply of +24 V for units, included into  DAPD-02, and ensures the following:

  • conversion of voltage of AC mains of 220 V into insulated DC voltage of + 24 V, and has up to five individual supply modules of type МАХ-24;
  • filtration of mains interferences;
  • indication of 220 V input availability;
  • switching on of every supply module via automatic switch;
  • indication of switching on, and protection from the short-circuit and overvoltage.
